Anemia often begins with no symptoms. As the condition worsens, symptoms may start to appear and may continue to get worse as time goes on. The main symptom of most types of anemia is fatigue. Other symptoms may include:

  • weakness
  • pale skin
  • rapid or irregular heartbeat
  • shortness of breath
  • chest pain
  • dizziness
  • irritability
  • numbness or coldness in your hands and feet
  • low body temperature
  • headache
  • cognitive problems (difficulty thinking or remembering)
