There are some conditions under which children should not receive vaccinations. Consult a doctor before having your child vaccinated to make sure it is safe to do so. If the child has had an allergic reaction to a previous does of the particular vaccine, they should not receive any additional doses. Children who are moderately or severely ill at the time the shot is scheduled should usually wait until they recover. In general, children with the following conditions should not be vaccinated:
- history of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (for certain vaccines)
- weakened immune system
- anemia or low blood count
- HIV/AIDS
- recent cancer treatment
- recent blood transfusion
- an allergy to any of the components of the vaccine (such as egg proteins)
