Genital warts, also called condylomata acuminate, are a common sexually transmitted disease that affects both men and women. They are caused by infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV) and can appear as flat lesions, stem-like protrusions, or cauliflower-like growths anywhere in the anal or genital region of men or women.
The warts might disappear on their own or a doctor can treat or remove them. The HPV virus that causes genital warts may stay in your body even after the warts are gone so it is possible for the warts to come back.
