Your risk for genital warts is associated with your exposure to the types of HPV that cause genital warts. Factors that increase your risk of exposure to HPV include:
- Having unprotected sex.
- Having sex with multiple partners. The more partners you have, the more likely you are to be exposed.
- Having sexual partners that have had a lot of sexual partners themselves.
- Having had another sexually transmitted disease.
- Becoming sexually active at a young age.
