Menstruation Guide - When should I seek medical care?

If any of the following applies to you, you should see a medical professional:

  • You haven’t started menstruating by age 16.
  • You have amenorrhea that is unexplained (e.g. you are not pregnant, etc.).
  • You have excessive or unusual bleeding or bleeding between periods.
  • You have severe emotional symptoms leading up to your period.
  • You suddenly feel sick after using tampons (there is a risk of toxic shock syndrome).
  • You have severe pain before or during your period.
