The preventative medications mentioned above can be quite effective at reducing the frequency of migraines, but they cannot prevent them entirely. In addition to medications, stress management strategies such as exercise, relaxation, biofeedback, and other therapies designed to help limit discomfort, may also reduce the occurrence and severity of migraine attacks.
You can also do your best to avoid your migraine triggers. If you notice that something specific tends to trigger your symptoms — a food, a smell, certain physical activities — you can try to avoid whatever that trigger is. Keeping normal sleep patterns and eating regular meals of healthy foods, and controlling stress are all ways to prevent some common migraine triggers. Unfortunately, for some people there does not seem to be any effective method of preventing their migraines.
